Animal sacrifice was ordained by God to be to man a perpetual reminder and a penitential acknowledgment of sin and confession their faith in the promised Redeemer.
It was intended to express a fallen race the solemn truth that it was sin that caused death.
To Adam's offer the first sacrifice was a most painful ceremony. Had to raise his hand to take a life that only God could give. For the first time was to witness the death, and knew that if he had been obedient to God would not have known to man or beast.
As he slew the innocent victim trembled at the thought that his sin must shed the blood of the spotless Lamb of God.
This scene will gave a profound and vivid sense of the enormity of his transgression, which nothing but the death of God's dear Son could expiate. And he marveled at the infinite goodness that would give such a ransom to save the guilty. A star of hope illumined the dark and terrible future, and he saved them from complete despair.
